I realize I haven't posted much in the last few weeks, so figured I'd throw out some updates.
My spring semester officially started this past Monday, and even though I've only had 2 days of class, I can tell this is going to be a busy semester. I'm going to be spending many hours at the library, starting with tomorrow night after class.
My other big thing that happened in the last few weeks is related to my last few posts. I had eye surgery (more specifically, eye lid surgery--but it's close enough and I had the risk of blindness so I call it eye surgery). Basically it was to fix different things that were affecting my vision. So let me give a little recap of the surgery. After changing into the wonderful gowns provided (always stylish in the hospital), I was taken into the recovery room. They injected medicine to knock me out into my IV, and while I try to fight it by counting holes in the tiled ceiling, I'm soon under. I wake up in the operating room. That's not a typo. I was put under so they could numb my eyes, but would be fully awake for the actual operation. What the hell is that? Anyway, I figure if I'm going to be awake for surgery, I'm going to make it have fun.
One of the nurses covers me in a heated blanket (since they keep the OR cold) and I told her "hey, when did I end up in the Hilton? I don't even get tucked in at home." Another nurse tells me she is putting medicine in my IV to sedate me, but not knock me out completely. As she's doing this, I tell her "why don't you just give me a few beers and a couple of shots--it'll work the same and I'm sure it's much cheaper." The doctor puts something in my eyes so I cannot see, probably something like a black contact or something (this was good because my only fear in being awake was that I'd see the doctor coming at me with a knife or actually see him cutting my eyes--not something I woulda handled well). After my vision was blocked, I told the doctor "The only thing I don't want to hear during this whole thing is 'oops' or any variation of the word." After coming out of surgery, I was taken back to the same recovery room where when the nurse asked how I my eyes felt, I said "Nothing that a few shots wouldn't take care of." Additionally, there was a young child in the room (who had surgery & was knocked back out in the recovery room when I was in prior to my surgery) who had woken up and was crying. The nurse said sarcastically about that makes you want to have kids & I said "Not at all and I have none that I know about."
Now, you may be wondering, did I feel anything during surgery. Absolutely. Several times, I had kicked my legs because I could feel them doing work on my eyes. They asked if I could feel it and I said yes, but as long as it didn't get worse, I'd be able to deal with it. It kind of makes my stomach turn now thinking about it because it wasn't light pain at all.
As of today, everything is healing pretty well. My face doesn't look as bad as it did right after surgery, but doesn't look any better than it did before surgery either :)
Homework is calling my name...
